Toyota FanZone was a scene of appreciation on Wednesday morning when one of Australian country music’s most beloved fan favourites, Lyn Bowtell, was inducted into Tamworth’s Galaxy of Stars.
The 10-time Golden Guitar winner was presented with the honour during a surprise pop-up ceremony on the Toyota FanZone stage at the 2026 Tamworth Country Music Festival, a fitting setting for an artist so closely connected to festival audiences.
The Galaxy of Stars was launched over 20 years ago by Tamworth Regional Council to honour artists who have captured the hearts of audiences and made a lasting impact on Australia’s music landscape.
Lyn has long been embraced by fans for her warmth, authenticity and extraordinary musical talents.
Whether performing solo, or as part of acclaimed groups Southern Steel, Bella or supergroup Bennett, Bowtell & Urquhart, Lyn has consistently wowed crowds with her stunning voice, honest, heartfelt songwriting and engaging stage presence.
Lyn won the Star Maker competition in 1997, and has since gone on to collect a MO award, be inducted into the 2022 Hands of Fame, and currently serves as Director of the CMAA Academy of Country Music, in addition to which Lyn runs her own ‘SHE’ Songwriting Retreats, a female-only retreat held in numerous states across the country, where she is a mentor to many developing songwriters.
“I think mentoring others makes what I do musically so much deeper. It gives me a sense of fulfilment that I might not otherwise have. I think that that’s truly where you live an existence that is fulfilled, when you give back, and when you help other people grow and learn. My songwriting students teach me a lot. Their experiences are rich and important, and working together we can make an even better industry for country music here in Australia.”
Last year, Lyn was there to surprise dear friend Luke O’Shea as he was inducted into the Galaxy of Stars, but this year, it was Lyn who was surprised, as fans and peers celebrated her own inclusion into the esteemed group.
“It’s just been wonderful to watch you keep evolving as an artist Lyn, and this is only another little steppingstone on your way, a beautiful steppingstone, but a well-deserved one,” Luke said, “And, you know Lyn, you are a true star and worthy of this award.”
Tamworth Mayor Russell Webb said the Galaxy of Stars honoured artists who had made a significant contribution to the country music industry. “This year’s recipient is a performer of remarkable talent, someone who has earned the respect of her fellow musicians and has been a generous mentor to the industry,” he said.
Festival Manager Barry Harley said the accolade was thoroughly deserved and reflects her enduring popularity with audiences and industry.
“Lyn is not only an incredible singer, but an amazing songwriter, guitarist and performer,” Mr Harley said, “We are so honoured to induct Lyn into the Galaxy of Stars. Congratulations Lyn on joining this illustrious group.”
Following the induction ceremony, Lyn’s brass plaque was installed at the Galaxy of Stars display in the forecourt at the Tamworth Regional Entertainment and Conference Centre.
